About Us |
The Old Time Clock Shop has a long history with clocks. The owner, Scott Childs, was stationed in Germany with the Army in the late 60's when his interest in clocks began. Many times he would find an old clock that someone had thrown away and restore it to its original beauty. If one of these was especially nice, he would keep it for his own collection. Moving around the world, he always made a special place in his home to repair clocks. Every new town brought new customers who needed "grandma's old clock" fixed. He joined the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in 1973 and has been recently recognized with the NAWCC "Fellow" award for his valuable contributions to that organization. He remains active in the association as a lifetime member. Scott has taught clock repair, both beginning and advanced for over ten years. As business grew, the small clock shop in his home became inadequate for Wichita's clock needs. In 1997, he opened a "Saturday only" storefront located on the west edge of the "Riverside" area in Wichita. Progressively, as business increased, so did the size of the Old Time Clock Shop. You can still find us in that same small shopping center of the west edge of Riverside in Wichita, but in a much larger shop with an increased staff to meet your clock sales and service needs. By 1999, Scott's son, Nathan Childs, had signed on, which allowed the shop to open 6 days a week. Nathan now manages the day to day operations of the shop, including sales and customer service. A superb technician, he specializes in small, electric, and quartz clock repair, as well as clock case restoration. Richard Carpenter, a long time Wichita clock repairman, is also superb technician specializing in three train movements but can repair anything. Larry Kincheloe, who "when he's not in the garden, he's fixing clocks," specializes in time only and time/strike movements and rounds out the multi-skilled talents of the shop. With our many years of experience and contacts we offer a total clock restoration service. Refinishing, restoration, glass, and dial restoration are only a few of the services that are available through the Old Time Clock Shop. Visit the shop today and you'll be amazed. It may be a plain grey building on the outside, but as you walk in the door the sounds of chiming, music, ticks and tocks seem to come from everywhere. |
